Don't forget about this Thursday’s Bicycle and
Pedestrian Task Force meeting, which begins at 5:30 p.m. We will be in room A109 on the first floor of
the City of Asheville Public Works building, 161 S. Charlotte St, in room A-109
again this month. Please enter the
building through the North door, the one nearest the bike rack and parking
lot. The meeting room will be ahead and
on your right. While you are thinking about it, why not note the rest of this year’s meeting dates on your calendar now? The task force meets the fourth Thursday of the month from January through October, and on the first Thursday in December. If I copied them down correctly, that makes our remaining meeting dates this year Feb 23, Mar 22, Apr 26, May 24, June 28, Jul 26, Aug 23, Sep 27, Oct 25, and Dec 6.
As a follow up to the presentation last month about the
Lake Craig/Azalea Road project, the public meeting discussed has been scheduled
for Thursday, March 1, 2012, from 4-7 p.m. at the RENCI at UNC Asheville office
in the Historic Grove Arcade building in downtown Asheville. The consultant team will be available to meet
with the community, present the current project alternatives, identify
potential impacts, and discuss the overall timeline. This meeting is free to the public and will
be held in an open-house/flexible drop-in format. I have attached a flyer about the meeting –
please share it with anyone you think would be interested.
To review, the project will evaluate the Lake Craig Dam
at Azalea Park for flood mitigation options in an effort to reduce the impact
of downstream flooding. The project also
includes floodplain fill removal and channel relocation along the Swannanoa
River, a water line extension to the John B. Lewis Soccer Complex, and roadway
improvements to Azalea Road and Gashes Creek Road. If you want to be on the project mailing
list, please send a request to lakecraigproject@mcgillengineers.com or call
(828) 232-6126 with your request.
